Book Review: The Secret Life of Bees

If you haven’t read The Secret Life of Bees, you are sorely missing out on a big sweet spoonful of golden love.  The way Sue Monk Kidd writes is indeed like honey…her words are so delicious.  If it were possible to eat them, I would have.  This story is so vividly descriptive and satisfying.  It’s also chockablock with beautiful pearls of wisdom that a reader would be challenged to end this book without taking away at least a few drops of it’s honey and not wanting to be better in some way.  Everyone needs a little bit of August Boatwright in their lives!

When I found out that this was being made into a movie, my guts crunched up and I’m pretty sure I made a stank face.  The likelihood that the film adaptation of a favorite novel meeting your expectations is very rare.  I’m not saying that was totally the case here because I’m seriously so in love with this book and it’s pedestal is pretty damn high, BUT the movie didn’t suck (to my great relief).  I actually liked it a lot, but you know…..not as much as the book.
Happy reading!
Xoxo, Jenna
